update on Paion's lead candidate

Results from a small study of the drug, desmoteplase, were released. The study, conducted at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, investigated the improvement in blood flow to the brain in stroke patients treated with the drug. The improvement in blood flow for those treated was 15.8% higher than for those who recieved a placebo. Since the study was on such a small scale (37 patients), the results may not stay the same in an expanded setting. The next step for the drug is a phase III trial to be conducted by Paion's parter, Forest Pharma.
