Google VOIP?

There's alot of speculation that google is planning to launch a VOIP service, perhaps similar to Skype. Rumor is that it is to be launched in the UK, which seems to have been fueled by this article in the Times. All of this seems to have stemmed from a job posting relating to providing a global backbone network. The only official word is that this is just "rumors and speculation".
